Under 14 Rock Celtic 6-0 Shamrocks

The U14’s won their first game of the season against Shamrocks on Sunday.
While the score line read 6-0 it could have been a lot more with the Rock side hitting the woodwork on a number of occassions.
It was pleasing to see the Rock stick to their system ( 4-2-3-1) with every player disciplines as to their role.
While all of the players played extremely there were a number of big performance from Jack Reid, Alex Hanneffey, Ben Mooney, Dylan Sharkey and James Cushnahan.
The Scorers were Ben Mooney 2, Dylan Sharkey 2, Gerard Rice and Christopher Stapeleton

Under 13 St Domnics 2- 4 Rock Celtic

The U13’s registered their first 3 points of the season with a hard earned but richly deserved win over St Domnics on Saturday morning. Playing in far from perfect conditions Rock struggled to find their normal passing game but managed to make some great chances through the ever consistent Liam O’Callaghan in midfield, with Jonathan Kierans going close twice and Oisin Meegan once. The introduction of Alex McCarty made a difference and he gave Rock the lead after good work from O’Callaghan and Meegan.

Rock rang the changes at half time with every player getting a run out. Despite the changes Rock were still the dominant side and pressed for the winner, but got caught with a succer punch and trailed 2-1 with 15 minutes remaining. This was the signal for Rock to move up a gear and the introduction of Oisin Geogaghan, Jack Barron and Josh Connolly added more fire power to a now rampant Rock Celtic. Within 5 minutes the lads were in front with goals from Oisin Geogaghan, salvaged in between a host of chances. Oisin rounded off the scoring and a fine indiviudal display with a fourth goal for Rock before the final whistle. Best for Rock were Eoghan O’Hora, Oisin Geogaghan, Jonathan Kierans and Liam O’Callaghan.

Under 13 Rockville 3-0 Setanta

Rockville got the season off to a flyer with a comprehensive 3 goal victory against a gallant Setanta. Right from the start Jordan Traynor laid down a marker of things to come with a mazy run that led to an early chance. Rockville created numerous goal scoring chances through Cillian Mullen, David Murdock & Ronan Baldwin but a combination of great defending & some fine goalkeeping kept the game scoreless. Then another mazy run & a superb finish by Jordan settled the nerves. Shortly after, Rioghan Murphy was on hand to add a second with a clinical finish from just inside the area.. The 2nd half saw a the 3rd goal of the game when Daniel Bryant reacted best of all to a loose ball in the box. Rockville keeper Loui Byrne was alert when needed & cleaned up anything that came his way. The defence ably led by Mark Gaughran who was assisted by Jack Nordon, Conor Johnston, Joe Sweeney & Oisin Hughes dealt with everything that Setanta threw at them. In midfield Senan Duffy, Donal Johnston, David Murdock, Jordan & Rioghan controlled the pace of the game & up front Ronan, Cillian & Daniel kept the Setanta defence on their toes for the entire game. Overall, a brilliant performance.

 Under 12 Bellurgan  0 -1 Rock Celtic

In a hugely entertaining match Rock Celtic came out on top with the only goal of the game. The game started with Oran O’Hanlon as an emergency stand in keeper. His subsequent performance was brilliant, highlighted with a brave save at the feet of the Bellurgan centre forward. There were great defensive performances from Luke, Kevin, Donal, James & Paul, who withstood all that Bellurgan threw at them & also managed with some slick passing to set up numerous offensive moves. In midfield Conor & Ciaran controlled the pace of the game & with the help of Jack, Edward, Conall, Richie & Finn managed to hold the upper hand for most of the game. And up front Aaron & Josh ran themselves to a standstill, never giving the Bellurgan defence a chance to relax. There were chances galore with the woodwork being struck on a few occasions by both sides, great goalkeeping & defending at both ends. In the end, an early breakthrough in the 2nd half by Josh sealed the game. He ran onto a lovely through ball, leaving the defender in his wake & from an acute angle deftly managed to roll the ball across the keeper & into the bottom corner. A super goal to seal a fantastic performance.

Under 11 Rock Celtic 2 – 1 Woodview

On Saturday last, Rock Celtic got off to a great start to the season with a 2 -1 win over Woodview at Sandy Lane. It was a very tight game and the half time score of 0 – 0 reflected this. Chances were created at both ends but Rock Celtic’s defence held solid with some great work from Neil McQuillian and goal keeper Jack Donohue. Woodview’s defence was continuously tested with super efforts from Charlie Murdock and Josh Hanna. Towards half time, Rock’s midfield began to take control of the game with the duo of Donal Leavy and Edward Otesanya working hard together. This pressure continued into the second half and it wasn’t long before the hard work paid off. A through ball from Cillian Duffy in midfield put Woodfiew on the back foot but the clearance fell to Adam Gartlan who calmly drove a low shot into the back of the net – it was 1-0 Rock. Soon after a superb ball from Josh Hanna in midfield found Declan Curtain on the left wing who beat 3 Woodview players to send  a thundering shot into the roof of the net. With 5 minutes to go, Woodview pulled one back but Rock held out for a deserved victory in a hard fought contest. Best for Rock were Neil McQuillian, Donal Leavy, Declan curtain and Josh Hanna.

Under 10 Domnics 3 – 2 Rockville

Rockville were very unlucky going down 3 – 2 to Domnics on Sunday. They conceeded two goals early in the first half but after a bit of reoganisation with dara o hare dropping back into defence the Rock side took the game to domnics. Alex gough , Frank Mcgrory and Sean Connor took control of the midfield and fired everythong they had at the oppostion. Rock won a penalty which Frank McGrory converted with Evan Durnin getting his foot on the end of a corner to slip the ball past the Doms keeper. With the last kick of the ball Doms scored an excellent goal to win the match. Man of the match was Rock’s Brian cafferty with an excellent performance in goals.

Under 10 Bellurgan 0 – 4 Rock Celtic

The U10’s got their league campaign off to a great start this morning with a well deserved 4-0 win away to Bellurgan. Rock were the stronger side throughout the first half with Mark Leavy, Sennan Carroll and Dara Quinn all very unlucky not to get on the scoresheet and the sides were level at half time. Josh Hanna smashed in a penalty early in the second half to go one up – after he was brought him down in the area following another great individual run. The lads continued to dominate with Steve Kamtchou, Gavin Lynch and Fiachara O’Hanlon all scoring fine goals to put the game well out of reach for Bellurgan.

Adam Hoban, Jamie Callan, Mark Gallagher, Cillian Duffey and Eoin Byrne all played exceptionally well moving to different defensive positions throughout the game, with another impressive clean sheet to their (and keeper Jack Donohoe’s) collection! Layo and Conor Monaghan also played well for Rock.
