U11 Premier: Woodview 1-2 Rock Celtic

Woodview took an early lead through Buka Okwesig in the first game of the under 11 double header at the all weather pitch at Dundalk Sports Centre on Saturday morning and held out until late in the second half but two clinical strikes from Josh Hanna and Declan Curtain sealed a narrow victory for Rock Celtic.

Both sides served up an entertaining game in cold conditions with the ball played to feet throughout the game. Camoihe McKeague’s pass in the 9th minute set up Buka Okwesig and the Woodview striker made no mistake from inside the six yard box to put Woodview 1-0 ahead.

Josh Hanna went close for Rock in the 11th minute and Donal Leavy looked certain to score on 15 minutes but Woodview keeper Aoran McArdle produced a terrific save to deny the Rock Celtic player. The Blackrock side attacked at every opportunity but the Woodview defence led by Jack Conlon was well organised and frustrated the Rock strikers time after time. It was more of the same in the second half, Mark Durkin was inches wide with a superb header in the 6th minute and the same player found himself one on one with Aoran McArdle but the Woodview keeper won ther race to the ball to clear the danger.

Declan Curtain struck the outside of the post in the 12th minute and a last ditch superb tackle by Jack Conlon in the 18th minute prevented Edward Otesanya from scoring. The equaliser finally came in the 23rd minute when Rock Celtic were awarded a free kick on the outskirts of the Woodview penalty area. Declan Curtain’s clever short free kick was hammered home by Josh Hanna and just a minute later Curtain put Rock Celtic 1-2 ahead when his left footed drive flew into the Woodview net for the winning goal.
